Obama, a socialist?

 Would that it were so
I remember well the day that Obama answered the charge from the GOP that he is a socialist.  With that Hollywood smile, he said, "well I guess I learned to share my toys in day care.  Does that make me a socialist?"  Everyone laughed.   I realized that the Cold War is finally over.  Today's New York Times put an even bigger  smile on my face this morning with an article called Socialism Boo, Hiss Repeat. 

Of course Obama is no socialist, far from it but the light hearted tone of the NY Times article suggests an easy approach to the discussion of socialism that hasn't been possible for a long time.  On the verge of what may very well be the nationalization of a major bank, not to mention Obama's new combatative tone against the banks and big industry, maybe just maybe a discussion of what 21st Century Socialism could be is possible.
