Chapter Nine - “Leadership: The Political is Personal”

Perhaps the most personal of all the chapters, Judy speaks about what it means to be a leader in the context of networked politics. she traces her own evolution from leading in a patriarchal way which was the only model of leadership available in her youth to learning a different kind of leadership sharing some of the knowledge skills and techniques she has learned on the way.

“I am encouraged by the leadership I see in many of the movements described in this book. Men who express their feelings, women who step up and speak out, people supporting and encouraging one another. Just as the new technologies enable more horizontal organizing, new knowledge that comes from psychology and management training can help us to lead in a way that encourages people to speak for themselves and to look for the leader in themselves.”
