Ask why you should care

Whether anyone has read this article or not, when dealing with a situation like this in any part of the world, one should ask themself "Why should I care?"

One should care to see past the politics and greed for power. A simple step would be to allow a greater degree of Transparency. This would seem impossible if one was to ask these questions. Why is the Sri Lankan government preventing news reporters and NGO's from entering the declared Safe Zone? Why aren't reporters allowed to report news of the wrong doings by the Sri Lankan government? Why are reporters being assassinated for critizing the actions of the Sri Lankan government? Why are news agencies in Sri Lanka being raided by the government itself?

Here are some facts to improve transparency:

-- April 29, 2009 the Sri Lankan Army killed about 290 unarmed civilians and wounded about 300 (this includes children, women, and men)
(if anyone needs footage, please let me know; Warning: graphic scenes not suited for a younger audience)
-- April 28, 2009 at 10pm Sri Lankan time, the Sri Lankan government started bombing the Declared Safe Zone from all sides (land and sea, unsure about airstrikes at that time)
but just a few days before, the Sri Lankan government said that it will stop using large Artillery, Cluster bombs, Shelling and Air bombardments on hospitals and other areas in the Safe Zone (however, that promise was not kept by the government)
-- Red Cross says hundreds of people have been killed in the government offensive since Monday and about 1,000 badly wounded people desperately need treatment.

- Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Sri Lankan defence secretary, said: "That is a joke" when LTTE declared a truce a few days ago.

He also said:
"They (the LTTE) were not fighting with us, they were running from us. There is no need of a ceasefire. They must surrender. That is it."

With that said, why is there the need to keep attacking the Safe Zone with civilians in it?
