Funding for Men's Centres

"... feminists feared with reason that male privilege would mean that they would get the funding and the attention."

In response to this line, I'm reminded of 2006, as president of our local Women's Centre, I was shocked and dismayed reading the local newspaper as I learned that - while the Women's Centre was laying off staff and struggling to keep the doors open for women and children in need due to the gradual and deliberate erosion of our funding since 2004 (annual budget of $80,000) - our local men's centre received a grant for $250,000.00!!

Yes, it is a hate crime. However, in our law books, hating someone because of their gender, does not constitute a hate crime. This absolutely needs to be changed. More importantly, laws will never accomplish real and lasting change on an intrinsic level. What we ultimately need is for our society to eliminate the notion of classism and what goes with that - power over another human being.
