idea about facilitating conversation between different cultures
I come from a labour/marxist Canadian background and, as an adult, became involved in the environmental movement. I have also been involved with the NDP and, for a period of a few years in the early 80s, the Green Party in BC.
A few years ago, I started telling friends in these groups that I would not participate in putting down the other groups, since I feel that it is imperative that we learn to work together.
The cultures of these groups are completely different, involving different classes of people with very different world views.
I've often wondered if a Council of All Beings session, where people would represent their movements and speak respectfully about what they have to offer, what their challenges are, what they need from the others, and ways they see of going forward would be a useful exercise.
Straddling these different groups, it seems to me that all have a piece of the puzzle and could all be broadened by each other.
Judy, I haven't read your book, but it was recommended to me by a friend last night so I read the chapter summaries. It sounds like you're doing great work. Thanks very much.
